Questions have been raised over whether the 41-year-old is the man to lead Blues forward after their play-off hopes faded away in disappointing fashion.

One victory from their last six games has left the West Midlands outfit meandering in mid-table – a farcry from their original expectations following significant financial backing from owner Tom Wagner.

So in order to go one step forward and compete for promotion back to the Premier League, do Blues need a change in the dugout to achieve this aim? Or will the club give Davies one more chance to prove his worth that he is a top-class Championship coach?

Here at FLW, we round-up the latest reporting over Davies’ future at St Andrew’s.

Birmingham City eye ambitious swoop for Thomas Frank to replace Chris Davies

Chris Davies’ job at Birmingham City is well and truly under threat after a dismal run of Championship form recently.

And this was intensified as an exclusive from FLW revealed Blues are considering an ambitious move to lure ex-Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur coach Thomas Frank into the Championship and to St Andrew’s.

Frank enjoyed a stellar near-seven-year stay with Brentford, taking the Bees into the Premier League for the first time and establishing the West London outfit at top-flight level on a limited budget with savvy recruitment.

His exploits at the Gtech Community Stadium earned the admiration of Spurs, who appointed the Dane as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou last summer.

However, despite being backed heavily in the transfer market, Frank managed to conjure up just 13 victories from his 38 games in charge, leaving the Lilywhites 16th in the Premier League table after his departure two months ago.

The appointment of Frank would be a huge statement of intent for Blues’ promotion ambitions next season, with the Dane still a Premier League level coach despite his shortcomings in North London.

Only time will tell whether Frank will be interested in a return to the Championship with Birmingham’s project, but it says a lot that the hierarchy are not prepared to put up with what has been an underwhelming season under Davies.

Journalist opens up on Chris Davies, Birmingham City future

Chris Davies’ future at Birmingham City have been the subject of discussion for the last month, with many torn over whether to give him another chance at the beginning of the 2026-27 season to show he can lead the club to a promotion push in the Championship.

Meanwhile, local journalists have been having their say on the situation, detailing to supporters what they think may happen come the close of the campaign.

One of those to offer his thoughts was Birmingham City reporter at Birmingham Live, Alex Dicken, who believes a “line has been crossed” between the supporters and Davies, with tempers starting to flare after a wretched run of results.

Dicken said: “I've been accused of being a Davies denier and a Davies defender in the space of the last week, but the selection and the way the first half panned out - plus the fact he didn't change anything until Blues went behind - makes it very hard to defend him.

“He has to accept the criticism that he's had since that game and for the first time in his managerial career he faced questions over his future.

“We're all aware of what the owners wanted for the club this season and it's plainly obvious that's not going to happen. Inevitably we're going to spend the final four or five weeks of this season talking about Chris Davies' future.

“It would be silly to say the narrative hasn't changed. Fair play to him, he always approaches and applauds the away fans but even his most enthusiastic of claps couldn't calm them down.

“There's obviously a lot of frustration. I hope it doesn't turn that sour where he's being booed and it's personal towards him but it feels like a line has been crossed now.”

Birmingham City fan pundit demands Chris Davies to be sacked

While the journalists have had their say on the situation, supporters have also been very vocal about where Davies’ future lies, with our Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore offering his thoughts over whether the Blues boss deserves to hold onto his job heading into next season.

Speaking to FLW, Jason believes Davies should be sacked by the powers that be, otherwise they risk a toxic atmosphere unfolding if they don’t make a swift change.

Jason told FLW: “He’s got to go. I don’t quite understand how anyone can defend the bloke at this point. He’s not the man to take us forward.

“We’ve gone from a club that was full of a losing culture, and, to be fair to Davies, he came in, he changed the standard and set foundations, but that’s where we stop it now. I think we’re getting really close to the point now where it will get toxic, and I don’t want that for him, as last season was fantastic, and nobody can take that away from him.

“But, you can’t have this level of investment in a squad, and have it 16th. Don’t get me wrong, the players have to take responsibility, as they’ve not been good enough.

“Something that bugs me with Davies is that he was meant to be pragmatic to win football games, but he’s not! He has got one way of playing the game, and that’s it. If that doesn’t work, all he does is sub like-for-like players in the hope that they can do something. It’s just not good enough.

“He has one plan, and if he steps away from it, we’re awful. Derby was an example of that, when he tried to play a back three, and we had Ibrahim Osman as a left wing-back, and we got terrorised.

“I pray for him and the board that they make the decision, so it doesn’t get toxic. Just let the man go out on a high, because even the most supportive fans of Davies are struggling to back him.

“Just move on, let’s go in a different direction, get someone else in and go again.

“Another thing for Blues, they want to sell season tickets on the basis we will compete (for promotion), but you’re not going to sell them and get the revenue which we need to splash the cash like we have been, if Davies is in charge. You will get people that won’t renew if he’s in charge.

“We will go backwards with Davies in charge. The only way it would get better is if he gets a transfer kitty of £30m-40m, but why should he? I could go on forever on this subject, but at the end of the day, Davies can’t be our boss next season, and they need to announce it before the end of the campaign and start the process.”
