Lautaro Martinez has been the focal point of Inter’s attack and one of Serie A’s best forwards in the past seven years.

Furthermore, his commitment on and off the pitch has earned him the captain’s armband at San Siro.

While enjoying a rise to stardom, El Toro has established himself as a permanent fixture in Argentina’s national team.

However, the 28-year-old had a rough season in 2024/25, which derailed his international status.

From Argentina’s top scorer at the 2024 Copa America, Lautaro has become a second choice for La Albiceleste.

Indeed, Lautaro made his last start in the current qualifying cycle against Peru in November 2024.

He has since appeared only once and scored off the bench in a 3-0 demolition of Venezuela last time out.

“Those who have played less deserve the chance to show what they can do,” Lionel Scaloni stated.

“As for the chances of seeing certain players on the World Cup list, I don’t think it’s the right time to say. I’m not yet clear on who I’ll start with.

“We’re still far away, and many things can happen. We have a base, a group of players that is always the same and doesn’t change.

“When we know how many players will be allowed on the World Cup list, we’ll see.

“Regarding Messi, I haven’t spoken to him about the World Cup. He’ll take his time calmly to decide, and whatever his choice is, it will be fine.

“Lautaro has the chance to play tomorrow,” Scaloni added.

“Lately, some young players have come through who can give us different options.

“The team’s identity is always the same, no matter who plays.”
