Inter captain Lautaro Martinez mixed joy and concern after the Nerazzurri’s win away to Cremonese, dedicating his goal to his daughter while also speaking out about the flare incident involving Emil Audero.

Named Player of the Match, Lautaro revealed the emotional meaning behind his performance. “The award goes in my daughter’s room, today is her birthday,” he said, with quotes via FCInterNews.

“Now I hope to get back to Milan quickly and find her still awake so I can at least give her a kiss. The award and the shirt are for her, she changed my life.”

The Argentine also discussed Inter’s work on set pieces, an area that proved decisive again.

“We work on them a lot. We have conceded some goals too and we are improving in this aspect. Set pieces in tight matches are important to unlock the game. We have to improve because we have an important advantage but there is still a long way to go.”

However, the mood turned serious when asked about the flare thrown at Cremonese keeper Audero.

Lautaro was among the first to check on the goalkeeper.

“These things must not happen, there is a risk to the person,” he said.

“We are human too, we provide a spectacle watched all over the world and we have to be careful with these things. We apologise to Audero, who with us was a champion for the second star, and we also apologise to all the Cremonese fans. These things must not happen.”

Despite Inter’s position at the top, Lautaro refused to talk about statements to rivals.

“It’s not a message for the league, it’s a message for us. There is still a lot to do. We have to improve everything we got wrong today. In the second half we suffered, but there is also a lot to enjoy. It is a balanced league.”

He later added on Sky Sport, reflecting on his scoring run.

“Happiness, pride. I work to make my family and these people happy. I had promised the goal to my daughter on her birthday and I cannot be with her. I hope that when I get back she is still awake so I can give her a kiss.”
