Some positive news regarding the former Chelsea striker after a worrying sight during Albania’s loss to England
Armando Broja has avoided serious injury after being stretchered off for Albania against England on Sunday.
The ex-Chelsea striker replaced Nedim Bajrami for the hosts in the 75th minute shortly after Harry Kane had opened the scoring for England in the final World Cup qualifier in Group K.
But in stoppage time, Broja went down clutching his ankle following a challenge. He appeared to be in intense pain as he was seen to by Albania medical staff and was in tears as he was stretchered off.
It was originally feared he had suffered a long-term injury, which would not have been the first of the Burnley man’s career.
Yet Standard Sport understands the injury is not expected to be serious and that Broja has avoided a long period on the sidelines.
The Slough-born forward reported back to Burnley’s training ground on Tuesday morning following the end of the international break and will undergo scans on the ankle injury. Clarets staff are hopeful he has only sustained a strain.
Broja has scored six goals in 33 caps for Albania since making his international debut back in 2020.
Following disappointing loan spells at Fulham in the second half of the 2023/24 season and at Everton last term, newly-promoted Burnley signed him from Chelsea for £20million in August.
