Arnau Martínez remains Valencia’s priority at right-back, with talks ongoing to bring him to Mestalla. According to AS, Ron Gourlay has been negotiating all week with Girona sporting director Quique Cárcel, aiming to close a deal soon so the defender can join Carlos Corberán quickly.
Martínez has a release clause of eight million euros and his Girona contract runs until June 2027. An agreement with the player is in place, and he would sign for five seasons if the transfer is completed.
That situation strengthens Valencia’s hand, since the player wants the move and Girona know he could leave for free next year. Even so, Girona are not prepared to let him go for nothing.
Girona open their season on Sunday against Leganés. The full-back is pushing to accelerate the move to avoid being named in the squad and having to play the league opener.
The coming hours are seen as crucial to completing the deal. Corberán currently has no senior right-back available for next week’s league debut.
