Arnau Tenas has joined Segunda División side Mallorca on loan for the season, leaving Villarreal after one campaign. The goalkeeper departs in search of greater playing time.
His switch follows Diego Conde’s move to Betis on Monday. Tenas arrived from PSG last summer for 2.5 million and still has three years left on his Villarreal contract. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Villarreal are working to sign a goalkeeper, with Peter Gulácsi the leading option. There is agreement with the player, but no deal yet with Leipzig, and the 36-year-old has one year left on his contract.
Tenas goes to a side he frustrated late last season at Son Moix in a 1-1 draw. He erred for Vedat Muriqi’s goal when a straightforward ball slipped, then redeemed himself with a series of outstanding saves that stunned the home crowd.
He played 15 competitive matches in his debut campaign for Villarreal, featuring 10 times in LaLiga, three in the Champions League and twice in the Copa del Rey. He started the club’s only Champions League draw, a 2-2 in matchday two against Juventus.
Despite those outings, he remained behind Luiz Junior, who enjoyed greater trust from the coaching staff and was a significant club bet two seasons ago.
