Arnaud Kalimuendo is closing in on a loan move from Nottingham Forest to Eintracht Frankfurt. The 23-year-old joined from Rennes for an initial £26 million only months ago, and it could be Forest’s first move of the January window.
Sky Sports Germany reports that he is expected to undergo checks on Monday before a loan is finalised, with a €1.5 million (£1.3m) fee and a €27m (£23m) option to buy included. The report added the move was not in jeopardy despite his weekend appearance.
Kalimuendo came on with seven minutes remaining in the 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday, his 14th appearance for the Reds. That cameo could be his last for the club.
Head coach Sean Dyche said he had no issue selecting the forward despite uncertainty, stressing that he remains a Forest player and that any decisions rest with the club. He felt Kalimuendo tried to influence the game when introduced.
Forest want to add a striker before the deadline. With Kalimuendo short of minutes and potentially departing, Dyche is already light up front due to Chris Wood’s extended absence after knee surgery and transfer talk around Taiwo Awoniyi.
Igor Jesus has secured a starting spot but has only one Premier League goal. If Kalimuendo’s move goes through, Forest will rely heavily on him in the next two Europa League ties against Braga and Ferencvaros, with Awoniyi not registered and Wood sidelined. They face West Ham United on Tuesday night, 8pm kick-off.
