Arnaud Rouger has resigned as LFP chief executive and plans to leave in early September, as the league readies for governance reform.

According to L'Équipe, he told board members at midday on Tuesday that he would depart after Monday’s National Assembly vote on the professional sport governance bill, which is due to be finalised over the summer.

He said the reform would create a new club company, reshaping work at the LFP and its commercial arm, LFP Media. The changes would significantly alter his current remit, so he will oversee summer matters, including preparation for the 2026-2027 season.

Rouger has spent 25 years at the LFP, the last six as chief executive alongside president Vincent Labrune. In his message he reflected on years of major projects and crises, and thanked Labrune for unwavering support, as well as the board since 17 September 2020.

Labrune, who was aware of his intentions, praised Rouger’s contribution during a demanding period for French professional football, citing successive crises, economic challenges and deep institutional change.

He said transitional arrangements would be set out at the start of the new term. Until then, Rouger will continue to perform his duties and prepare for the new season.
