It still doesn’t quite feel real that we’re preparing for life after Mo Salah, but Arne Slot has now offered one of the clearest insights yet into what has made our No.11 so special.

The Egyptian King confirmed last week that he will leave at the end of the season, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield that has redefined modern Liverpool greatness.

Slot explains what makes Salah different

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, our head coach was quick to highlight that Salah’s success hasn’t come by chance, pointing instead to a mentality that sets him apart from almost everyone else in world football.

Slot said: “He had nothing to prove, but for himself he had a lot to prove because Mo always thinks he has to prove something every three days.

“That hunger never stops and that is something that I find most special about him.”

That line alone explains why the forward has remained at the top for so long.

The Dutchman went further, describing how even from day one at the AXA Training Centre, he could see the standards that have driven the 33-year-old to become one of the best players of his generation.

He added: “He was the fittest player that came back, and I think that’s the ideal situation that you want as a manager: that your star player comes back as fit as he did.”

It’s that relentless drive, even after achieving everything, that defines Salah more than any stat line ever could.

Salah’s legacy already secured at Liverpool

While the numbers are extraordinary, 255 goals in 435 appearances, what stands out from Slot’s comments is the consistency of elite behaviour behind the scenes.

Our boss insisted: “It isn’t a coincidence that he’s been so influential in the last 10 years in football.”

That sentiment echoes what former Red Igor Biscan said recently, placing Salah among the most influential players in our history, while Martin Skrtel also admitted we’ll be “missing him” when he goes.

There’s still work to be done this season, with an FA Cup clash against Manchester City and a Champions League tie with PSG on the horizon, and Slot made it clear the focus remains on finishing strongly.

But regardless of what happens next, one thing is already certain.

Salah doesn’t just leave as a great player.

He leaves as a Liverpool legend, and as Slot’s words make clear, it’s his mentality as much as his goals that ensured that status.
