Arne Slot's position as Liverpool boss has been under serious threat in recent weeks.

The Reds have looked miles off the side that won the Premier League title last season, and several issues both on and off the pitch have contributed to a so-far disappointing season.

After three heavy defeats to Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven, Slot looks to have slowed the bleeding at Liverpool, winning once and drawing twice in the three games prior to Tuesday night’s 1-0 win against Inter Milan.

Rumours have swirled that the Dutchman could soon be sacked, and Tuesday’s game was a huge test for the struggling head coach.

Liverpool bosses present to watch Inter Milan vs Liverpool

Although the powers that be at Anfield will no doubt have been keeping a close eye on Slot’s side in recent months, they applied the pressure on Tuesday.

According to the AnfieldSector X account, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes were both present to watch the Reds in action in the Champions League in Milan.

Club executives being at a match isn’t always a sign that something big is on the horizon but given the wider context and the pressure Slot is under, it felt as though the pair were present to make a decision on the head coach’s future.

Edwards and Hughes will no doubt have been satisfied with Liverpool's victory and the Reds solid display will almost definitely be enough to keep Slot in the job for the time being.

A clean sheet away from home against Inter Milan is no easy feat and, although the Reds still weren't perfect going forward, it appears Slot's side are heading in the right direction.

What will happen to Slot?

The Dutchman's job is still by no means secure. A number of potential successors are reportedly being considered by Liverpool, but the three points against Inter Milan will ease the pressure on the 47-year-old.

Liverpool's performances will need to continue to trend upwards for the head coach to once again feel safe in the job, and the unresolved issue of Mohamed Salah's future also still hangs over his head.

Qualifying for the next round of the Champions League would help Slot build some credit back up with the club and the supporters, but all involved will also be keen to see the Reds rise up the Premier League table.

Arne Slot seems to have stayed his execution for now, but complacency absolutely cannot be allowed to seep in and the league clash against Brighton at Anfield on Saturday is still a must-win game for Liverpool.
