Arouna Sangante to miss Riazor trip with Barcelona looming

Arouna Sangante will miss Sevilla’s trip to Riazor on Wednesday as the centre-back continues to struggle with an ankle issue, in a week that also brings Barcelona to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Sevilla’s centre-back options are stretched. Sangante remains out of training, Marcao is short of match sharpness, and the immediate alternatives are Kike Salas, Andrés Castrín and the makeshift option of Juan Iglesias.

The Senegalese defender sat out the Valencia CF game through suspension after a contentious red card at RCDE Stadium, and has been managing discomfort since. The club will not rush his return, with progress assessed over the coming days.

His absence leaves Luis García Plaza to juggle limited resources in a position currently under strain. Fábio Cardoso has rejoined first-team training but is still not being considered for minutes.

After visiting Riazor, Sevilla host Barcelona on Saturday. A subsequent international break of around three weeks could give Sangante time to complete his recovery and reintegrate with the group.
