Arrascaeta and Varela have been called up by Uruguay for friendlies in the upcoming FIFA window, leaving Flamengo without the pair during the training period.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Uruguay face Japan on 24 September at 7.05 Brasília time, then South Korea on 28 September at 8.00 Brasília time, before meeting India on 6 October.
The extended international window, dubbed the Super Data Fifa, runs from 24 September to 6 October, allowing up to four matches. It also reflects early planning for the 2030 World Cup, which will have venues split across Europe, North Africa and South America.
De La Cruz has not been selected by coach Diego Forlán, despite featuring at the 2026 World Cup alongside Arrascaeta and Varela. His omission stands out given that recent involvement.
Flamengo could have further internationals. Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil have called Pedro and Samuel Lino, while Ecuador and Colombia have yet to release squads, with Plata, Anthony and Carrascal in contention. Jorginho is on Italy’s provisional list.
Before the pause, Flamengo host Independiente del Valle (EQU) on Thursday 17 at the Maracanã at 21.30, a tie that decides a Libertadores semi-final place. They then face Red Bull Bragantino on Sunday 20 at the same venue in the 28th round of the Brasileirão at 18.30, with Arrascaeta and Varela available.
