Arrascaeta produced a dazzling piece of skill in Flamengo training at Ninho do Urubu on Monday, earning applause from Varela and Alex Sandro the day after sealing a Carioca semi-final place.

According to Coluna Do Fla, a video on the club’s official channel showed the No 10 applying spin to swerve the ball under Varela’s leg, drawing cheers from the two full-backs.

The Uruguayan featured in the closing minutes of Sunday’s derby against Botafogo at Estádio Nilton Santos, then took part in Monday’s session alongside team-mates who did not feature.

Flamengo had led through Lucas Paquetá, before Barboza levelled. Arrascaeta’s corner was flicked on by Vitão at the near post, allowing Erick Pulgar to score with a second header after Neto saved his first, sealing a 2-1 win.

Flamengo now face Madureira in the Carioca semi-final. Before that, they meet Lanús in the Recopa Sudamericana decider in Argentina on Thursday 19 at 21:30 Brasília time.
