Arrascaeta turned heads before Flamengo faced Mirassol at the Maracanã on Wednesday, arriving in unusual light therapy glasses.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the Flamengo playmaker wore spectacles that projected a green light across his eyes.

The device is owned by AVA and was developed by engineer Rodrigo Santana. Called Circádia, it is designed to help regulate circadian rhythms via the eyes, influencing the body’s sleep and wake cycle.

The glasses emit green light directly onto the retina, where melanopsin responds to the stimulus and can increase cortisol, a hormone linked to alertness.

Such technology can aid athletes who must remain sharp at times when the body would usually wind down, notably during night matches. Footballers often need to adapt routines around evening games, training and other duties.

It is intended for use over only a few minutes and costs about R$ 1,200.

On the pitch, Flamengo beat Mirassol 2-0 at the Maracanã in a rescheduled fourth-round Campeonato Brasileiro fixture. The victory moved Flamengo to within one point of leaders Palmeiras, the smallest gap since the start of the competition.
