Arrascaeta sustained a fracture to his left wrist while playing for Uruguay, with surgery recommended. He will return to Brazil to be re-evaluated.

The club said in a statement that doctor Fernando Sassaki received test results in South Korea confirming the injury, adding that the player will be reassessed in Brazil before any procedure and then continue his recovery.

The injury happened in Seoul on Monday morning during the friendly against South Korea. After falling and using his left hand to brace himself, he complained of pain in his forearm and left the pitch immediately.

He was replaced by Rodrigo Salazar at 32 minutes of the second half, visibly in pain. Initial assessments indicated trauma to the left forearm, he was taken to a local clinic for detailed tests, and the fracture was later confirmed.

Uruguay won 4-1, the first victory of Diego Forlán’s tenure. There is no timetable yet for Arrascaeta’s recovery, which will depend on the procedure and his progress, and he could miss the Conmebol Libertadores semi-final against Estudiantes. Flamengo are next in action on eight October against Santos at Vila Belmiro in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
