Flamengo have confirmed Arrascaeta has fractured his left wrist, and he will undergo surgery.

The club said in a statement on Monday 28 that team doctor Fernando Sassaki received test results in South Korea confirming the injury with surgery indicated, and that the midfielder will return to Brazil to be reassessed before the procedure and continue his recovery.

With little more than two weeks to recover, the No 10 will miss October’s Libertadores semi-final ties against Estudiantes. A return may only come in a potential final.

On Uruguay duty during this FIFA window, he slipped in a solo moment and fell on his forearm, then left the pitch in pain. Earlier, he had scored a brilliant goal in La Celeste’s win over South Korea.

He will sit out Uruguay’s final game of the window, against India on 06 October, and will return to Rio to begin treatment with Flamengo’s medical department.
