Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri is with the England u21s for the October break, as they continue their push to qualify for the u21 European Championships in 2027.
Nwaneri scored and won England’s Player of the Match award in the team’s opening group win over Kazakhstan in September, and he was just as impressive in Friday’s game away to Moldova.
The Arsenal 18-year-old set up England’s opening goal by racing away from a defender before finding Jamie Gittens for a near-post finish. Then he provided his second assist with a clever reverse pass to Divin Mubama in the 68th minute.

Nwaneri was also heavily involved in England’s third goal, playing another clever pass with the outside of his foot that directly led to Josh King being fouled for a penalty.
The match finished 4-0, and Mubama won England’s official Player of the Match award for his two goals.
But it’s not hard to argue that the striker wouldn’t have scored either goal without Nwaneri’s influence, and the Arsenal midfielder was possibly a better candidate for the award.

England have another game against Andorra coming up on Monday, and they’ll want to maintain their 100% qualification record so far. With two wins from two and zero goals conceded, the side are setting themselves up well to eventually make the final tournament.
