Over the last 24 months, United have capitalised on similar situations to snap up Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi from Hale End.

Interestingly, Arsenal are also thought to be looking at United’s academy to strengthen their youth options.

James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye poised to jump ship from Old Trafford

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are plotting a double raid on Manchester United.

The Premier League champions are reportedly working on transfers for both James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye.

The Athletic have corroborated the story, adding the North London club are confident of finalising deals for the youngsters.

Scanlon is a 19-year-old winger who spent the second half of last season on loan at EFL League Two side Swindon Town.

Ogunneye, meanwhile, is primarily a right-back. He was loaned out to Newport County, also a side playing in England’s fourth tier, and made 21 appearances for them before returning to United.

The London-born 20-year-old defender has been involved in multiple first-team matchday squads at United.

James Scanlon agrees Arsenal deal

The report adds that Arsenal have “embarked on an aggressive youth recruitment drive and are understood to be confident that deals for both players can be agreed this summer.”

Scanlon, a Gibraltar international, has allegedly agreed a two-year deal with Arsenal, with an option for a further 12 months.

Both Scanlon and Ogunneye had somewhat underwhelming loan spells away from United and are not regarded as jewels with first-team potential. As such, Arsenal’s move for the pair is intriguing, to say the least.

Meanwhile, United are thought to be ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Leicester City’s teenage midfielder Louis Page.
