It was decided that another loan would benefit the 19-year-old the most and Arsenal received approaches from across Europe.

Dortmund were keen on signing Nwaneri permanently last summer and they intensified their interest in recent days after new arrival Giannis Konstantelias suffered an ACL injury.

Arsenal signed off on the deal early on Tuesday and Nwaneri flew out to Germany to undergo a medical and complete the move.

The terms of the loan move are not believed to include any obligation or option for Dortmund to make it a permanent deal next summer.

He will wear the No18 shirt at Dortmund and could face a swift reunion with the Gunners.

Arsenal face Dortmund in the league phase of the Champions League. They will host the Bundesliga side on November 24.

UEFA rules state that players on loan are eligible to face their parent clubs, meaning Nwaneri could well line up for Dortmund at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.

Nwaneri is the third player to seal a move away from Arsenal on Deadline Day.

Fabio Vieira has rejoined Hamburg, where he spent last season on loan, for £7.7m.
