Mikel Arteta says Bukayo Saka is fine but new injury concern emerges on a frustrating night for Arsenal
Arsenal have been dealt a new injury scare after ahead of this weekend’s North London derby against Tottenham.
Leandro Trossard was forced off during the 2-2 draw with Wolves on Wednesday night as Arsenal dropped more points in the Premier League title race.
Trossard was named on the bench at Molineux as Mikel Arteta opted to keep faith in Gabriel Martinelli on the left-hand side following the Brazilian’s goal in the 4-0 win over Wigan in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Trossard was introduced to the action in the 73rd minute, as a replacement for Bukayo Saka who had limped off with what appeared to be an issue with his knee.
However, the Belgian forward’s involvement did not last long as he came off worse during a collision with Wolves defender Santiago Bueno.
Trossard received treatment from the Arsenal medical staff before getting back to his feet and was then replaced by Riccardo Calafiori who had the misfortune of failing to keep out Tom Edozie’s effort on the line as Wolves snatched a draw in stoppage time.
There is yet to be an update on the 31-year-old regarding the severity of the injury, though he could be a doubt for Arsenal's next fixture against Tottenham on Sunday.
That said, there was some good news regarding Saka as Standard Sport understands that the winger is fine despite being substituted in the second half after receiving treatment.
Furthermore, Saka was put up for post-match media duties which is another indication that he should be OK for the big derby showdown as the Gunners look to get their title bid back on track.
Speaking to the BBC, Saka said: “Disappointed. Not much else to say. There was a big difference in how we played in the first half and the second half.
“We dropped our standards and we got punished for it.
"Time to focus on ourselves, improve our standards and improve our performances and it is in our control."
