Two Arsenal midfielders look set to be heading for the Bundesliga, with both Fábio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga closing in on moves to Hamburger SV on transfer deadline day. Vieira finally secures exit after summer of rumours.

Vieira to Hamburg on Season-Long Loan with Buy Option

Florian Plettenberg reports that Vieira has agreed a season-long loan to Hamburg, which includes an option to buy worth more than €20 million. The 25-year-old is expected to undergo his medical in Germany today before the move is confirmed.

This development comes after weeks of speculation linking Vieira with a switch away from the Emirates. As reported by JustArsenal, interest had been growing across Europe, with West Ham and Stuttgart both monitoring his situation closely. At one stage it appeared the Premier League side might win the race, but Hamburg’s persistence has paid off and they are set to add the Portuguese playmaker to their squad.

His departure to Hamburg represents a fresh opportunity to reignite his career.

The double deal underlines Arsenal’s determination to trim the squad before the close of the window. While fans will be pleased to see two fringe players find new clubs, it will be the scale of the Vieira fee that draws most attention.
