Arsenal eye World Cup winner as Vinicius alternative | OneFootball

Arsenal have turned their attention to Barcelona forward Ferran Torres after missing out on Vinicius Junior.

The Gunners had expressed interest in signing Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid, but hopes of a deal disappeared on Thursday when the Brazilian signed a new six-year deal at the Bernabeu.

Arsenal remain intent to add a versatile forward, and have made initial contact for Torres. Caught Offside claim the North Londoners are eyeing a deal for the Spaniard, who scored the decisive goal in the 2026 World Cup final win over Argentina.

Paris Saint-Germain have also courted Torres, with Luis Enrique a big admirer of his compatriot, and are understood to ‘lead the race’. Torres scored 21 goals in 49 games for Barcelona last season in the most productive campaign of his club career.

However, the Spanish champions are continuing to pursue a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, which could determine Torres’ future. Barcelona want Torres to delay his decision on a potential exit, until the club have a clearer picture on whether a deal for Alvarez is possible.

Torres has only 12 months to run on his contract at the Camp Nou and Barcelona are at risk of losing the 26-year-old for free if a renewal or sale is not agreed. He has previous experience of the Premier League after an 18-month spell at Manchester City between 2020 and 2021.
