Arsenal have a fresh fitness worry before Leeds visit, with Jurrien Timber unused in the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Serbia on Sunday. Leeds go to north London on Saturday lunchtime.
Timber did not feature in any of Arsenal’s pre-season friendlies, then played only two Premier League matches before linking up with the national team. He had a brief outing against Serbia, started versus Greece, then was an unused substitute for the home rematch.
“I have to be very smart about the steps we take. Otherwise, I’ll suffer a setback, and I don’t want that,” Timber said. “I want to play every game and take part in every training session. However, the physios advise me on what is best for me. So, I need to listen to them carefully.” The Metro carried his comments.
With the Netherlands’ schedule now complete, Timber will return to London with a week to recover.
Mikel Arteta’s defensive options could be bolstered, with Ben White, Piero Hincapie and Yerson Mosquera all spotted in a recent training video and potentially available this weekend. Declan Rice withdrew from England duty at the start of the break, though the reason is unclear, and he played the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton.
