Arsenal fight back to defeat Chelsea after conceding early

Arsenal fought back from going a goal down early on to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

The Blues have been quick starters so far this season with early goals in the previous two league games and that happened again here tonight.

Chelsea were 1-0 up inside two minutes when a set-piece ended in Jorrel Hato moving the ball on which dropped down for Morgan Rogers to fire in a low effort beyond David Raya.

The champions responded well to that setback and thought they had equalised 10 minutes later when Declan Rice's freekick led to a goalmouth scramble. Riccardo Calafiori ended up prodding the ball home but the goal was ruled off with Ezri Konsa judged offside by VAR.

The equaliser did arrive though and it came through Kai Havertz who picked up the ball on the right drove inside and put in a low shot that Emiliano Martínez got a hand to but couldn't keep out. The Argentinian will surely have felt that he could have done better.

Xabi Alonso's side had a great opportunity to regain the lead just before the break after a quick counter attack that resulted in Pedro Neto shifting inside and shooting but then seeing his effort bounce off the post.

The Arsenal comeback was complete five minutes into the second half when Christos Tzolis found Martin Odegaard who kept his cool to make it 2-1.

The Gunners managed to hold on to that lead until the end with Raya being needed to deny Estêvão late on.

That result means that Arsenal finish the weekend second in the table behind Manchester City on goal difference while Chelsea sit in fouth.
