Arsenal is among clubs fighting for Brazilian teenager

When it comes to scouting teenage talent, few clubs are as active as Arsenal, and the Gunners have identified another promising player in Brazil.

Arsenal already have several Brazilian players in their first team, and those stars have demonstrated that they possess the quality required to succeed at the club. Their progress has encouraged Arsenal to continue searching for young talent in Brazil and attempt to recruit players before they reach their full potential.

The latest name on the Gunners’ radar is Breno Sales. Brazilian journalist Gustavo Tutinha reports that Arsenal are among the leading European clubs monitoring the centre-back, who turns 17 in November.

Arsenal Track Sales

Tutinha says Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in the Vasco da Gama defender. The Brazilian club are holding out for a substantial fee, having already rejected an approach worth up to €10 million for his signature.

That decision demonstrates how highly Vasco da Gama rate Sales. It also gives Arsenal an indication of the potential cost if they decide to make a serious move for the youngster.

Sales has not yet played enough senior football to prove that he is worth such a fee, but his potential has clearly attracted significant attention. Arsenal will therefore need to assess whether his development justifies making a major investment at this stage.

Arsenal Have Time

Sales cannot move to Arsenal until he turns 18, giving the Gunners time to study his progress further. The club can continue monitoring his performances and decide whether a transfer would make sense once he becomes eligible to leave Brazil.

The delay could benefit Arsenal because it allows them to gather more information before committing to a deal. It also gives Sales the opportunity to demonstrate that he can develop into the high quality defender Vasco da Gama believe he can become.

Competition from Chelsea and Manchester City may increase the pressure to act, but Arsenal do not need to rush. If Sales continues progressing, the Gunners could eventually decide that he is worth pursuing, although Vasco’s asking price will remain an important factor.
