Arsenal remain firmly in the hunt for Nico Williams, with hopes growing that a deal can finally be struck.
According to TEAMtalk, the Athletic Bilbao winger is still viewed as one of the club’s standout attacking targets. The interest, sources say, has never gone away.
The Gunners have tracked the Spain international since the summer of 2024. Back then, Barcelona pushed hard to sign him but failed to get a deal over the line.
Williams instead committed to his boyhood club on a remarkable 10-year contract. That agreement looked to have ended the speculation. Yet a difficult campaign in the Basque Country appears to have shifted his thinking.
Bilbao endured a frustrating season, and those close to the player insist he would welcome a Premier League move if the right project emerged.
His contract does carry a way out. Williams has a release clause understood to be around €100m (£87m), a steep figure but not an outright barrier for Europe’s elite.
Such clauses, in practice, often mark the start of negotiations rather than the end. His wages, though, would make him one of the highest earners at the Emirates.
For now, his focus lies elsewhere. The 23-year-old has been named in Spain’s World Cup squad and sees the tournament as a stage to rediscover his best form. A strong showing would only sharpen the interest around him.
Behind the scenes, Arsenal continue to monitor the situation closely. They are actively hunting reinforcements on the left of their attack, and Williams sits high on the internal wishlist.
Sporting director Andrea Berta believes only a handful of wide forwards could genuinely improve Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Williams is firmly in that bracket. Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has also emerged as a major target, though Arsenal are weighing several options given the competition for him.
They will not have a free run, either. Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are all being kept abreast of Williams’ situation as his representatives assess the market.
