Genoa head coach and legendary former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has revealed that he “never heard from anyone” after rumours linking the Frenchman with the vacant head coach role at Inter earlier this summer.
Speaking in an interview with SkySport, with quotes via TMW, from Genoa’s pre-season training camp in Moena, Vieira denied he was in any talks to replace Simone Inzaghi, before the Nerazzurri appointed Cristian Chivu to replace the Saudi-bound Italian.

Vieira was also asked to comment on his club’s transfer window – as Genoa look to strengthen their side ahead of the new season: “There are players who leave and players who arrive, and that’s why it is important, especially at this stage of the season, to have players who already know this team. Bani, Malinovskyi and Ekuban are very important in this regard: because they guide newcomers both on the pitch and in getting to know the environment around the club.”
Mattia Bani has been playing for Genoa for five years now, with 108 Serie A appearances under his belt. Malinovskyi has only been at the club since 2023 but the experienced midfielder has a wealth of Serie A and international experience to help settle new arrivals. Ekuban, meanwhile, has 91 league appearances for the club since signing from Turkish side Trabzonspor in 2021.

Genoa are also in the process of completing the signing of Inter starlet Valentin Carboni on loan for the season. The talented Argentine scored the winner in Inter’s Club World Cup victory over Urawa last month but is now set to spend the season on loan with Vieira’s club.
Speaking on Caboni, Vieira said “We have a club that has a lot to offer players, as well as being a beautiful place to live. Everyone who comes here have always done well and have always felt comfortable. He’s a quality player, and it’s important for us to have this kind of player – because we are ambitious and want to do better than last year.
“Staying up will always be difficult but we can grow in terms of our style of play. There’s plenty of work to do but that doesn’t scare us!”
