The Gunners captain has played just once after suffering a knee injury against Brentford on February 12.

Odegaard returned to make an appearance off the bench in the north London derby, but still felt uncomfortable and has not featured since.

Arsenal then turn their focus to the Carabao Cup final on Sunday when they face Manchester City at Wembley, where Odegaard could still play some part.

"We're really pushing, he really wants to try to be available," Arteta said.

"But we'll have to wait and see in the next few days when he trains with the team, how he feels.

"We know the game that we're going to be playing in a few days again, and the more players that we have the better."

Arsenal will also be without Jurrien Timber against Leverkusen after he was forced off in the first half on Saturday.

The Dutchman went down early against Everton and initially continued before he had to be replaced before half-time.

Asked whether Timber could be available for the Wembley final, Arteta said: "We don't know.

"I think with him it will be a matter of days, but not sure."

If Timber is ruled out, Arteta will have to decide between Cristhian Mosquera and Ben White at right-back against City.

White has had a limited role this season and Arteta turned to Mosquera when Timber was forced off.

However, the Arsenal boss insisted that White could still have a big part to play.

"He's in a much better place, he's been very unlucky this season in certain moments," Arteta said.

"He had very, very good moments as well throughout the season, so we need everybody available.

"We know what Ben gives us when he's at his best, and he trained today. He feels good, so we need everybody's contribution."
