Arsenal slash wage bill as Martinelli to Al-Hilal and Jesus to Barcelona take summer salary savings to £893k

Arsenal are have cut almost £1m per week from their wage bill this summer after trimming the squad.

The North Londoners have sought to offload several fringe players during the current window, with Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus the latest pair set to leave the Emirates.

Martinelli is nearing a club-record sale to Al-Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League side have agreed a fee of around £55m with Arsenal. Jesus is also close to finalising a cut-price move to Barcelona, in deals that will see Arsenal’s saving on wages reach £893,000-a-week.

Jesus offers the biggest saving, having earned £265,000-a-week in North London, despite falling out of favour. The Brazilian’s wages were the third-highest in the Arsenal squad, behind Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz.

Martinelli’s £180,000-a-week wages are also soon to be off the books. Elsewhere, Arsenal have saved further from the sales of Leandro Trossard (£180,000-a-week), Fabio Vieira (£45,000-a-week, Jakub Kiwior (£58,000-a-week), Christian Norgaard (£65,000-a-week) and the release of Reiss Nelson (£100,000-a-week).

Arsenal have reinvested around £530,000-a-week in the wages of Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa, Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier, but with £363,000-a-week saved, could a late marquee addition still be on the agenda?
