Kai Havertz has announced the birth of his first child with wife Sophia Weber, marking a year of personal milestones despite a frustrating end to his season with Arsenal.

“Welcome to the world our little boy. We love you so much!” Havertz posted on Instagram, alongside a black-and-white photo of the newborn’s tiny hand grasping a finger.

Havertz and Weber, who have been together since 2018 and grew up in the same neighbourhood in Germany, married in July last year.

At the time, the pair shared their wedding photos with the caption “18.07.24 – forever”. Havertz proposed to Weber shortly after making the high-profile £65m switch across London.

The 24-year-old will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season after sustaining a hamstring injury during a training session in Dubai in early February. The injury, suffered while blocking a shot, proved severe enough to require surgery.

Post-operative rehabilitation for hamstring tears of this nature typically spans four to six months, and Arsenal’s medical staff do not expect the German international to be ready before pre-season. He is therefore unlikely to return to action before the start of the 2025/26 campaign. The injury brought a premature halt to what had been a quietly influential season. Initially used as a box-to-box midfielder by Mikel Arteta, Havertz had increasingly featured in more advanced roles, including as a false nine, contributing important goals and link-up play in Arsenal’s title push and Champions League campaign. Now, with recovery underway and a newborn at home, Havertz will be focusing on two long roads – back to fitness, and into fatherhood.
