Arsenal star offered to Chelsea and Man United as transfer stance takes surprise twist

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future at Arsenal has taken an unexpected turn, with fresh reports claiming that both Chelsea and Manchester United have been given the opportunity to sign the 19-year-old.

It represents quite a shift from the situation only a few days ago, when reports suggested Arsenal had made it clear to Manchester United that Lewis-Skelly was not for sale.

Now, however, Chelsea have reportedly been approached over a possible move, while United have also been offered the chance to sign the Hale End graduate.

Chelsea offered chance to sign Lewis-Skelly

According to Bobby Vincent and Tom Canton of football.london, Lewis-Skelly has been offered to Chelsea following Arsenal’s signing of Bruno Guimaraes.

Chelsea have held a long-term interest in the youngster, although there is currently no indication that they will make a move. The report adds that Arsenal have been planning for Lewis-Skelly to remain part of their squad, but that a sufficiently large offer could potentially tempt the Gunners into considering a sale.

Vincent subsequently added that Chelsea are not alone, with Manchester United also having been given the opportunity to sign the Arsenal youngster.

That is particularly interesting given what had previously been reported about United’s interest.

Just Arsenal covered the situation last week after Lewis-Skelly emerged as a target for the Red Devils. At that stage, reports claimed Arsenal had informed United that the youngster was not for sale, with the Gunners reluctant to strengthen a direct Premier League rival.

If the latest claims are accurate, something appears to have changed.

Could Bruno Guimaraes’ arrival change Lewis-Skelly’s situation?

The timing is particularly intriguing following Bruno Guimaraes’ arrival at Arsenal.

Lewis-Skelly has already found regular minutes difficult to come by. His reduced involvement last season ultimately had consequences internationally as well, with the teenager missing out on England’s World Cup squad after struggling for consistent game time at Arsenal.

Although capable of operating at left-back, Lewis-Skelly has also been used in midfield, and increased competition in that area following Bruno’s arrival could make his pathway to regular football even tougher.

There is still an important distinction to make here. Lewis-Skelly being offered to other clubs does not mean Arsenal have decided to sell him, and the latest report maintains that the Gunners have been planning with the youngster in their squad.

Nevertheless, the suggestion that Arsenal could now listen to a major proposal makes this one worth watching, particularly given the apparent change from their previously reported stance towards Manchester United.

For a 19-year-old who came through Hale End and has already shown what he can offer at senior level – he even started for the Gunners in the Champions League Final v PSG – any decision to sell would undoubtedly generate plenty of debate among Arsenal supporters.
