Declan Rice’s second free-kick goal in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Real Madrid last season is among the goals to have been nominated for the Puskas award.

The Puskas award is given to the best goal scored in world football every season, and Rice’s stunning strike is up for the honour.

Rice scored two free-kicks in the game, and it is the second which is among the list of nominees.

He faces stiff competition, however, with Lamine Yamal’s goal against Espanyol back in May also up for the award.

Meanwhile, Arsenal duo Mariona Caldentey and Kyra Cooney-Cross have received nominations for the 2025 Marta Award, the equivalent award for women’s football.

Caldentey is nominated for her Champions League semi-final strike against Lyon, while Cooney-Cross’ goal for Australia in a friendly against Germany is also featured on the list of nominees.
