Arsenal summer signing makes England u17 debut

Arsenal summer signing Mylo Bernard made his debut for the England u17s on Monday, helping them to a 2-1 victory.

Arsenal youngster Mylo Bernard had a slow start to the 2026/27 campaign, as he had to wait for his transfer to north London to go through.

The striker was previously on the books with Crystal Palace, and he’d come to the end of his contract, but the Gunners had to sort out a compensation payment before his move could be made official.

That happened on September 8th, and Bernard made his Arsenal u18 debut in a 5-1 win over Norwich City the next week. But over the international break, he’s representing the England u17s for the first time.

The u17 coaches have called up a large squad for the September-October break, so not everyone will get an opportunity in every game.

Arsenal’s Charlie Phillips made an appearance in last Wednesday’s win over the Republic of Ireland, and it was Bernard’s turn for a chance on Monday against Israel.

Bernard ended up playing the full 90 minutes, with England coming from behind to win 2-1 thanks to an own goal and a winner from Hezekiah-Daniel Grimwade.

The game was part of a four-team tournament, so it was encouraging to see England getting off to a winning start. Phillips, Bernard, and fellow Arsenal call-up Vincent Joseph will hope for further appearances in the remaining games against Venezuela (Thursday) and Germany (Sunday).

England u19s 1-0 Republic of Ireland – Friendly – Dowman played 81 minutes and scored the winning goal for England.
England u21s 4-2 Kazakhstan – u21 Euro qualifier – Nwaneri played 69 minutes, Setford didn’t feature.
