Arsenal have the opportunity to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League table when they welcome winless Wolves to the Emirates on Saturday at 3pm.

With the likes of Man City and Aston Villa not in action until Sunday, the Gunners can seize a temporary advantage in the title race. As for Wolves, they make the trip to the capital on the back of a 4-1 thrashing at home to Man United, which extended their winless start to 15 games.

Arsenal (4-3-3): Raya; White, Timber, Hincapie, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Gyokeres, Eze

Arsenal team news vs Wolves

Arsenal will still be without Gabriel at the back, William Saliba is a doubt, while Riccardo Calafiori is suspended. However, it’s hoped that Jurrien Timber is available after he missed the midweek win away to Club Brugge.

Ben White and Myles Lewis-Skelly are expected to be right and left-back respectively, with Timber partnering Piero Hincapie. Norgaard, who came in alongside Hincapie in Belgium, is likely to come in again if Timber fails his fitness test.

Viktor Gyokeres is expected to start up front, flanked by the returning Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze. However, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli, who both scored during the week, provide Mikel Arteta with a selection headache of the good kind, but Leandro Trossard remains out.

Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Martin Odegaard should make up the midfield three.

Can Gyokeres get back firing?

Viktor Gyokeres started fast at Arsenal with a brace in his second Premier League appearance, but since then the goals have dried up. He’s added only two more in the league: one in September’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace and the most recent in November’s 2-0 victory at Burnley.

A recent spell on the sidelines didn’t help. The Swedish striker missed back-to-back fixtures against Sunderland and Tottenham and has since been limited to substitute cameos: 18 minutes against Chelsea, seven minutes against Brentford, and then a 45-minute second-half runout in the defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.

Mikel Arteta is expected to restore Gyokeres to the starting XI for the first time in six weeks (Premier League) after giving him an hour in the win over Club Brugge, and the timing couldn’t be better.

Wolves head to the Emirates in dire form, having taken just two points from a possible 45 this season, during which they’ve leaked in a league-high 33 goals. They’ve lost nine straight in all competitions – including a 4-1 hammering by Manchester United on Monday – offering Gyokeres a prime chance to get firing again.
