Arsenal told Osimhen will ‘bring something different’ than Alvarez as Arteta urged to ‘keep’ youngster – Petit | OneFootball

Emmanuel Petit has told former club Arsenal that Victor Osimhen would “bring something different” to Julian Alvarez, and has urged the side to “keep” a young star.

The Gunners appear to have failed in their hopes of landing Alvarez this summer. His attention has been firmly on Barcelona and it’s not seemed he’s willing to entertain another move.

And with Barca not a viable transfer, made crystal clear by Atletico Madrid’s board, there have not been any suggestions that Arsenal will now break through.

In fact, journalist Alex Silvestre has suggested it’s “almost 100 per cent certain” that Alvarez won’t be leaving Atletico, with Arsenal being told there isn’t a chance of him heading there.

Galatasaray striker Osimhen has now been cited as a potential reinforcement in the attack at the Emirates.

Former Gunner Petit has detailed his admiration for both strikers, telling Oddschecker: “He’s [Alvarez] a beautiful player with great movement and intelligence. He’s got speed, technique, and vision.

“He can score many goals and provide assists. It’s hard sometimes to get intelligent players who understand the DNA of the team. Arsenal have a proper DNA on the pitch. I think Alvarez would be perfect for Arsenal.”

“[Osimhen is] a different player, not the same quality as Alvarez. He would bring a powerful presence up front. He’s fast, he’s a fighter, and he has a strong personality. He brings something different than Alvarez, bring him in! They are two different options, but I like them both.”

Emmanuel Petit wants Myles Lewis-Skelly to stay

Petit has also spoken on the potential of an outbound transfer for Myles Lewis-Skelly. The teenager, who’s started every Arsenal game in midfield so far this season, was reportedly offered to Chelsea and Manchester United earlier this summer.

Those reports were quashed, and Petit feels the versatile teenager should stay at the Emirates.

He said: “A big loss, I wouldn’t say that. It would be a loss, yes. But a big loss, I’m not sure, because they have many talented players in the squad who can play different positions. With so many midfield players at Arsenal, it would be very tough to get into the starting eleven. But he can play at left-back too. I would keep him, definitely.”

Arsenal don’t appear willing to let Lewis-Skelly go, and with only a few hours left of the summer window, with nobody actively pursuing him, an exit feels very unlikely.
