Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to English journalist Sam C.

The journalist who works for The United Stand and Thats Football, and is followed by the likes of Dharmesh Sheth, David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly known as Twitter) claims Manchester City are also strongly interested in signing the Brazil international this summer.

Both Arsenal and Man City are monitoring the situation of the 26-year-old, with plenty of other Premier League clubs also keen.

Guimaraes was on the radar of the Gunners for a while before they moved on, and they have been trying to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.

However, getting a deal done for the Spain international has proven tricky and it appears Arsenal are looking at other options should the move for the 28-year-old fall through.

Guimaraes ended last season with seven goals and eight assists in 37 Premier League appearances and will be a perfect fit for the North London club.

Arsenal could do with a midfielder with his qualities in the middle of the park, but Newcastle are not expected to sell one of their best players anytime soon, and he would cost an arm and a leg even if they decided to cash in on him.

The Magpies have balanced their books earlier in the summer after being at risk of breaking the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, and suitors will find it tough to lure them into parting with any player in the remaining days left in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners will keep focusing all their attention on Merino and hope to get the deal over the line in the coming days.
