Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori hailed as “by far the best left-back in the league” after Chelsea win | OneFootball

Jamie Carragher has called Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori the best left-back in the league by far.

Calafiori has had a hugely impressive start to the season at Arsenal, recording two assists in threePremier League games. He also netted in the Community Shield win over Manchester City in August.

The Italian's adventurous style was on show as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates at the weekend, with Calafiori charging forward into unorthodox areas. In the first half, he was seen out on the right flank after venturing right across the pitch.

The 24-year-old has made a major impact in attacking areas for thePremier League champions and Carragher insists there is no doubt that he is the league's best in his position.

"He's the best left-back in the league by far," Carragher said toSky Sports.

"He dictated the formation of Chelsea. Wherever Calafiori was, [Pedro] Neto was. When Calafiori drops forward, Neto drops in to make it a back five [for Chelsea]. Chelsea were flittering between a back four and a back five. It's all about the positioning of Calariori.

"You see the space between the centre-backs, that comes from Calafiori. That's the impact he's having on games at left-back."
