Arteta: Eze’s NLD Hat Trick Was “No Coincidence” After Extra Training

Mikel Arteta expressed his delight for Eberechi Eze’s derby heroics, but conceded it was not a coincidence due to his preparation. He bagged a first ever North London derby treble in the Premier League era and the first in the English top flight in forty seven years against Spurs on Sunday. His incredible display in the 4 to 1 triumph put the Gunners six points clear of second placed Chelsea ahead of their clash next week. More importantly, the Gunners hold a seven point swing on rivals Man City, while the defending champions Liverpool are almost out of sight.

Arteta Explains Why Eze’s Impact Was No Accident

Eze’s display was nothing short of incredible and Mikel Arteta was full of praise for him after the encounter. “Unbelievable,” the boss said to Arsenal afterwards. “I look at the stats and when was the last time that somebody scored a hat trick in a north London derby. Many, many, many years ago. So that tells you about the difficulty, but it is not a coincidence.

“After international duty, he had two days off, and he said, no, I want to train the next day, I want to practice. He was asking me questions about his positioning, about his pacing, about this. When a player has that talent, has a brain, and he has that willingness to be better and to make an impact in the team, these things happen.”

Focus Shifts To Bayern Munich

The Gunners will barely have enough time to relish their derby victory. They are back in action on Wednesday and they will be playing their toughest fixture of the season so far. Mikel Arteta’s men will welcome Bayern Munich to the Emirates for the UCL league phase fifth round. Both sides are joint first along with Inter Milan on twelve points and it is shaping up to be a keenly contested affair. The Gunners are yet to concede a single goal in the competition so far, but they will be facing a really tough outfit. The Bavarians have won seventeen of their eighteen fixtures this campaign, drawing only the odd game and scoring in every game. They are the most in form team in Europe and will pose a significant threat at our home ground on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, are you confident ahead of the Bayern clash Gooners? I oddly am.
