Arthur Masuaku says he will return to Sunderland for pre-season training, but admits uncertainty over his longer-term future after finishing last season on loan at Lens.

“Honestly, I don’t know,” he said. “At the end of the month I will return to training at my club, I will play and regarding the rest of my career my agent will handle it. For now I’m going back to my club.” He was speaking to Sports News Africa.

The left-sided defender joined Sunderland last summer, featured during the first half of the campaign on Wearside, then moved to Lens in January to seek regular football.

He arrived with Premier League, European and international experience.

His status is among several to be resolved as Sunderland assemble Régis Le Bris’ squad for a season that includes Premier League and Europa League football.

Granit Xhaka’s future has been settled and Eliezer Mayenda has completed a move to Rennes, with focus now on further additions and possible departures.
