AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has reacted to his team’s high-flying start to the 2025/26 PSL campaign.

Usuthu have stood their own in the Betway Premiership this season as they managed to secure three wins, two draws and a solitary defeat in their first six league outing.

In their last match, AmaZulu ended a six-game winless hoodoo against Stellenbosch, who knocked them out in the MTN8 quarterfinal last month.

The impressive form has the KZN side in sixth place on the Betway Premiership standings, with 11 points amassed, much to the delight of Zwane.

“It’s always good to start getting points early in the season because it sets you up for the second round that’s going to be tough and now you can manage to gauge yourself and look at where you can end up in the season,” he said.

“It’s better than finding yourself in a situation in the middle of the season when people are fighting to avoid relegation, some are fighting for top honors and then you also want to be in the top eight, it’s always going to be difficult during that time.

Having survived an early relegation scare that led to the dismissal of Spanish mentor Pablo Franco Martin last season, the 52-year-old tactician says the club doesn’t want to be in the precarious situation again.

“We have been in that situation before and we told ourselves that we don’t want to find ourselves in that situation again because it’s depressing and it takes a lot from the players. So, I don’t think many people gave us a chance from the beginning of the season and the credit must go to the players,” Zwane added.

AmaZulu will swing back into Betway Premiership action with a trip to Mbombela Stadium, where they will face TS Galaxy on Wednesday after their match against Orlando Pirates was postponed last Saturday.
