AS Monaco are in advanced talks over the sale of Aleksandr Golovin (30), as per a report from L’Équipe. The playmaker could return to his native Russia before the closure of the transfer window on Thursday.

Golovin joined Monaco back in 2018 and is by far the most long-serving player in Filipe Luís’ squad. However, he could now be set to depart, with the transfer window in Russia still open. Monaco need to sell players, not only to decrease their wage bill, but also to ensure an injection of funds. Folarin Balogun’s prospective move to Everton was set to do just that, however, his move to Merseyside ultimately fell through at the final moment.

There have therefore been talks following the closure of the transfer window in France. Pape Cabral was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but he has ultimately stayed with his formative club. However, Golovin could yet leave amid advanced talks with either Spartak Moscow or Zenit St. Petersburg, L’Équipe understands. A deal would have to be completed before the closure of the window on Thursday.
