After the 5-4 defeat in Strasbourg on Sunday, CEO Thiago Scuro called the season a failure and signalled major changes. He said Monaco had lost identity and that a new sporting project may end a player cycle.
The Coupe de France final still matters, a Lens win would send Monaco into Conference League play-offs. L’Équipe reports an agreement to sign Cercle Bruges left-back Nazinho for about five million.
Monaco want to keep a core of captain Denis Zakaria and vice-captain Thilo Kehrer, though bids, especially for Zakaria, could arrive.
Lukas Hradecky plans to stay after an injury-hit year, and Philipp Köhn will contest the number one spot. With 12 goals, Ansu Fati has convinced and Monaco are close to exercising his option.
Mohammed Salisu, Takumi Minamino and Kassoum Ouattara are expected back for pre-season. Leicester loanee Wout Faes does not want to return to England and could stay if terms are agreed.
Monaco are open to selling Folarin Balogun, Maghnes Akliouche and Lamine Camara. Akliouche’s price last summer, around 70 million, cooled bidders, and while demands may ease, a World Cup could raise his value. Krépin Diatta will not be renewed.
Strasbourg hurt Sébastien Pocognoli’s case. Scuro said the coach is under contract and decisions are due within two weeks. Caio Henrique, Vanderson and Aleksandr Golovin could depart, Eric Dier’s future depends on the coach, Simon Adingra’s 17 million option looks difficult, and Paul Pogba’s case needs fitness assurances with a year left.
