AS Saint-Étienne have sent their support to 21-year-old Kenzo Kies after he was rescued from the Rhône near Lyon on Monday evening.

BFM TV reports that Kies is in a state of brain death, while Le Progrès says the incident happened on Monday. He was reportedly evacuated from the river in a critical condition and was in a no-swimming area.

In a post on X, the Loire club described him as facing an immensely serious moment alongside his loved ones. It added that the club was deeply affected and expressed its support and affection to his family, saying the Peuple Vert are thinking of him.

Kies spent part of his development at Saint-Étienne between 2018 and 2025. He is currently under contract with En Avant de Guingamp, having previously been with OL from 2011 to 2017 and AS Saint-Priest in 2017-2018.

Firefighters were called shortly before 18:30, with temperatures at 38°C in Lyon, to assist four young men in the Rhône. Three had left the water by the time they arrived, while the fourth, Kenzo Kies, was drowning.
