AS Saint-Étienne defender Joao Ferreira has been discharged from hospital and allowed home after being taken off on a stretcher during the 3-1 win over Clermont.

The club said in a statement that, after a night under observation and successful tests, the 25-year-old left hospital on Saturday morning to rejoin his family, and his return will follow medical advice.

The incident occurred early in Friday's Ligue 2 fixture after a heavy collision with Clermont's El Hadj Koné.

Ferreira appeared unconscious on the turf, received immediate treatment from medics, then departed Geoffroy-Guichard wearing a neck brace.

The update was issued on Saturday afternoon, a day after the match.
