Ashley Peden has left his role as Sunderland’s chief commercial officer after three years as off-field changes continue. He said in a LinkedIn post that it was his final day at the Stadium of Light and thanked staff, supporters and the wider community.

He joined during a rebuild and contributed to the club’s off-field growth. Peden described the Sunderland experience as unique and praised the people and place that defined his time.

He plans to take a break with his family before the next stage of his career, reflecting on the privilege of being part of memorable moments. He signed off with a nod to the club’s rallying cry.

Peden’s position will not be directly replaced as the club restructures its commercial operation. Work is already under way to appoint a chief revenue officer in the new year to oversee commercial and marketing activity.

In the interim, Scott McCubbin has assumed responsibility as part of his wider role within Bia Sports Group, through which Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori manage their sporting interests. The group’s influence has grown, with Mike Papadimitriou named chief financial officer earlier this year.

Chief business officer David Bruce praised Peden’s contribution, highlighting efforts to elevate the club from League One to the Premier League and to build a stronger long-term environment. The new role reflects a focus on bolstering revenues as rules limit clubs to spending 85% of generated income on first-team costs.
