Manchester United’s under-21s finished off a strong weekend for the club with a 4-1 win over Leicester City.

The senior side defeated Ipswich Town 5-2 on Sunday, led by a hat-trick from their captain, Bruno Fernandes.

The under-21s made it a perfect start to the season with a convincing victory, with Shea Lacey scoring an impressive brace; his first strike in particular gained much praise.

Amir Ibragimov extended the lead just before half-time, and JJ Gabriel produced his usual moment of brilliance with a stunning turn and finish to kill off the game.

Ashton Missin setback

Ashton Missin started his first game in over a year for the under-21s after spending the entirety of last season out with an injury.

The winger came into the team last weekend against Ipswich from the bench but got a start on Monday.

Missin was proactive with the ball and carried it forward well, causing the Foxes numerous issues in the first half.

Unfortunately, he went down injured just before half-time, and he was replaced by summer signing Tynan Thompson, who would assist Ibragimov just moments later.

The club’s official match report described Missin’s injury as a knock, and the club and fans will hope that it was just a precautionary substitution and he can return to action soon.

The Halifax-born attacker moved up to the under-18s in 2022 and helped the side win the national title in 2024.

He was also a regular in the under-21s during the 2024/25 season and scored a goal in the UEFA Youth League against FK Zalgiris.

Their next match will be an away fixture against Manchester City on 12th September, and Missin will hope to be fit for this intriguing encounter.
