ASSE backed up last week’s 0-3 win at Sochaux by beating Clermont 3-1 on Friday 14 August, their defence largely assured despite a late scare.

Le Progres reports that the same trio were decisive again, with Cardona, Breum and Ballo at the heart of the victory.

The new system appears to suit Cardona. Restored to a more central role, the 29-year-old delivered another strong display.

A week on from his brace, he scored with a superb one-touch left-footer, then created another goal with a deft flick from a corner.

He might have had an assist earlier, only for Boakye to miss the chance.
