Criticised for an attacking imbalance, ASSE under Eirik Horneland have prioritised solidity, posting two straight clean sheets, only the second time in a year.
One matchday on from the first 0-0 of his tenure came a 1-0 at Geoffroy-Guichard against Clermont. According to Le Progres, the head coach is content to win without flourish while they reset.
Across his first year, the adventurous Norwegian rarely saw low-scoring nights, with matches averaging 3.87 league goals per game until now.
He said he felt relieved after the hard-fought win on Saturday evening, and was lightly whistled by the Chaudron when the line-ups were read out, with aesthetics set aside to get back on track.
It was close against Clermont, but tweaks were visible as the team sought control, appearing more disciplined and less dangerous after a league run of two draws and one defeat.
