Aston Villa have agreed a €40 million, R$ 234 million, deal to sign João Gomes from Wolverhampton for the 2026/27 season.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo will receive 14% of the fee, comprising 10% of the player’s economic rights and 4% via FIFA’s solidarity mechanism.

That is expected to bring in about R$ 32.7 million. João Gomes has left Wolverhampton’s pre-season base in Portugal to undergo a medical and sign for Villa.

Before Villa’s move, Atlético de Madrid were close to a €45 million transfer, about R$ 273 million, for the former Flamengo midfielder.

The operation fell through after intermediary Jorge Mendes changed his stance. Atlético had a parallel understanding with the agent regarding Bernardo Silva, who instead joined Real Madrid.

A Flamengo academy graduate, João Gomes debuted in February 2021 and stood out in 2022 as the club won the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil. Wolverhampton signed him in January 2023 for €18.7 million, around R$ 104 million at the time.
