Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign England international Katie Robinson on a free transfer, according to reports.
The 21-year-old is a free agent this summer following the expiration of her contract at Brighton & Hove Albion. She confirmed her departure last month after four years at the south coast club, having initially joined in 2020.
90min reported last month that Robinson was attracting interest from the United States, with NWSL side NJ/NY Gotham understood to be among the clubs keen on signing the winger. However, it now appears she is set to remain in England with WSL side Aston Villa reportedly winning the race.
According to The Athletic, the West Midlands club have agreed a deal to sign Robinson on a free transfer this summer. It’s a crucial period for Villa after Carla Ward’s departure at the end of last season and the arrival of new manager Robert de Pauw.
Villa have already lost a key player in Alisha Lehmann, who departed the club earlier this month to join Juventus. Robinson will bolster Villa’s attack, which already consists of Adriana Leon, Ebony Salmon, Rachel Daly and Kirsty Hanson.
Initially from Cornwall, Robinson came through the ranks at Bristol City before making her senior debut in 2018. She joined Brighton in 2020 and had a brief loan spell at Charlton Athletic, before she truly broke into the team in the 2022/23 campaign.
Since then, she has gone on to make 68 appearances for the Seagulls across all competitions and has scored 10 goals in that time. Robinson received her first senior England call-up in November 2022 and earned her first cap in a friendly against Norway that same month.
